Mother's Day.

So as my readers may have figured out, I am no longer in the Peace Corps.  But I am still in Mongolia.  I teach 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade Math in English at a private school in the city of Ulaanbaatar.  I am also the co-director of Friends of Mongolia, an NGO.  But enough about me.

Today is Mother's Day, as many of you know, I am sure.  I decided to make my mom a cake, chocolate, of course, for the occasion (and send her a picture of it - ha).  I decided to make Martha Stewart's Flourless Chocolate Cake, because of it's few ingredients and excessive chocolate-ness.  However, I decided and began making the cake before really reading the recipe.  If I had been smarter, I would have realized that one of the crucial steps to the recipe is beating the 6 egg whites to soft peaks.   Thankfully, my housemate Cheryl loves to cook and kindly took it upon herself to beat until soft peaks arose.  If I were in America or somewhere else with an electric beater, I wouldn't have been so fearful of this crucial step.  But, alas, I am in Mongolia, in a kitchen sans an electric beater.  The clear liquid of the egg whites slowly but surely turned white and fluffy and then took the appearance of puffy cumulus clouds as the sugar was added.  The cake was quite successful, despite its burned bottom and edges.  It is hard to bake anything perfectly in an oven where there is no temperature setting, just an on and off switch.

On Friday, I went to Tsagaandarium Art Museum.  It is located on the other side of town from where I live, in an area I rarely go to.  I took some pictures of the river/bridge which are below.

This last picture is near the art museum.  The tall white thing on top of the hill is a monument the Russians built back in the day called Zaisan.  If you climb to the top of it, you got a really great view of the city.

That is all for now.  Perhaps I shall begin writing on this ole blog once again, seeing as how I do love to write.  Happy Mother's Day, Fancy Nancy.

oh, Nancy, it is good that you didn't actually taste it. It was burnt. And so bittersweet, I felt like it was almost sour. Oh well.....

I don't know about Baltimore exactly, but I am planning on moving to Maryland. Hopefully close to wherever I can get a job. I may try to look for a job in DC, which case I will probably live in Maryland close to DC. But next year, Baltimore.
